Le Trawler by Garcia elected 2013 European Boat of the Year

2013-01-30

Garcia Yachting has seen a great start to the year, with this prestigious award for the Garcia Trawler 54. Journalists representing boating magazines from most European countries were seduced by Garcia Yachting's success in its challenge of importing to their first motor boat ever-built the attributes of sailing boats. The demonstration of her seaworthiness during the transatlantic crossing between Cannes and Annapolis during the fall of 2012 in the middle of hurricane season further helped convince the international media.  The prize is a wonderful recognition for the great work done by all the teams involved.

The evening was made even more a success by the election of the Outremer 5X as "2013 European Yacht of the Year" in the multihull category, just 3 years after winning the title with its 49 foot model, a testimony to the boatyard's ability to innovate !

For the group, these two prizes encourage us to continue to chart our way under the long-distance cruising banner.

Jimmy Cornelll long distance cruising seminar 2013

2013-01-28

Get ready for your long-distance cruising project with Jimmy Cornell

Voiles&Voiliers magazine and Grand Large Yachting invite you to participate to the 2nd Long-Distance Cruising Seminar on  March 23rd and 24th in the Paris area.

This seminar is aimed at those who plan to set off on a long-distance cruise and who, like many candidates, have multiple questions to ask.

·         Is it something that will really appeal to us?

·         Do you do it alone, as a couple, with family or with friends…?

·         What are the key factors for a successful trip?

·         How do you prepare for this kind of project?

The idea is to allow yourself time for reflection, in a comfortable hotel in the Paris area, away from the rush of the everyday life, to quietly think  over your long-distance cruising plan.

By calling upon various sailing personalities under the leadership of Jimmy Cornell, together with experts and families, all lucky enough to have been on voyages in different latitudes on various types of boats, this 2-day seminar enables you to give your long-distance cruising plans a boost and exchange ideas with other voyage candidates.

A section called “long-distance cruising for women” will be reserved specifically for  women and hosted by a sailor who has spent several years with her family aboard  her boat. It will be an opportunity to discuss each person’s expectations and  anxieties and to build on practical experience.

The seminar is organised over two days with one major theme per day:

  • Saturday 23 March: Long-distance cruising: is it for us?
  • Sunday 24 March: Practical questions about a long-distance cruising plan.

Please note that the number of places is limited

Blue Planet Odissey, the next around the world rally

2013-01-28

Jimmy Cornell announces the first edition of the Blue Planet Odyssey; an event which is particularly close to our hearts. This rally across the globe’s oceans aims to raise awareness amongst the greatest number of sailors about the effects of climate change. Each stopover will enable participants to visit the islands most under threat and will be an opportunity to take part in humanitarian, scientific and educative projects, such as the construction of structures designed to make life easier for the locals, as well as the distribution of  school materials. It will be an unforgettable and extremely enriching experience not to be missed. The European start venue is set to be London in July 2014.

Grand Large Yachting shares with Jimmy a special relationship and the same values for  blue water cruising, it is therefore natural for us to support this wonderful initative. We will be pleased to follow the different steps of the rally and support the different Outremer, Allures and Garcia's boats during this trip.
